1.6m trees
Chempedak is a tropical cousin of jackfruit, known for its smaller size, soft sweet flesh, and incredible aroma. This ultra-rare fruit tree is perfect for Perth growers wanting something unique. It can fruit from 3–6 years in ideal conditions. The fruit has a custard-like texture and a taste often described as banana-pineapple-caramel. Grows well in sheltered warm spots or large greenhouses. Not widely available in WA. Doesn't handle 5c or below well.
It’s easier to manage than jackfruit: the tree is smaller, fruits weigh less, branches are less likely to snap, and it doesn’t sucker aggressively. Chempedak also has a more upright shape and less latex, making fruit cleanup simpler.
Fast-growing and can be kept under 4 m with pruning. Protect from cold winds. Limited stock grown from seed, 1.5 m tall and ready to go.
