Botanical Name: Mangifera indica
Common Names: Choc Anon, Chok Anan, Miracle Mango, Honey Mango
Choc Anon is a famous Thai mango that earned the name Miracle Mango for its ability to fruit twice a year. It produces a heavy crop in summer and a second smaller crop in winter, which is rare for mangoes in Perth.
The fruit is oval, bright golden yellow when ripe, and has firm, fiberless flesh with a sweet honey flavour and hints of coconut. It is a hardy variety that handles the Perth heat well once established.
Features:
Ideal prune height range: 3-4m
pH growing conditions: 5.5 to 7.5
Shade or full sun: Full sun
Minimum pot year 5: 60L to 90L pot
Time to fruit age: 1-2 years if grafted
Choc Anon is a vigorous grower with a dense, upright canopy. It is self-pollinating and very productive, making it a top pick for home gardeners wanting to extend their harvest season. In the Perth metro, it appreciates a north-facing spot to soak up the winter sun for that second crop. Like most mangoes, it needs free-draining soil to avoid wet feet during our rainy winters.
Interesting Notes:
The skin is thin and easy to peel, and the fruit can even be eaten while still crunchy and green in traditional Thai salads. In Thailand, it is often planted on the south side of the home as a symbol of prosperity and abundance.
Choc Anon is a must-have for anyone building a serious backyard food forest.
