Botanical Name: Punica granatum 'Parfianka'
Common Names: Parfianka Pomegranate, Dwarf Parfianka Pomegranate
Parfianka is widely regarded as one of the absolute finest pomegranate varieties in the world, originating from Turkmenistan. While naturally a compact tree, it can easily be kept as a dwarf specimen (1.5–2m) through light annual pruning or grown in a large container. It produces large, vibrant red fruit with soft, manageable seeds and an exceptionally sweet, rich flavour with a subtle hint of acidity.
Highly adaptable to warm, hot summer climates, it is a magnificent, highly productive choice for backyard food forests, patio containers, or smaller suburban spaces.
Features:
Parfianka pomegranate is a tough, deciduous shrub or small multi-stemmed tree that handles hot, dry summers with ease once established. It displays attractive bright green foliage and showy orange-red spring blossoms before setting abundant fruit that ripens in autumn. It benefits from well-draining soil, deep watering during fruit formation, and an annual application of balanced organic fertilizer in late winter.
Interesting Notes:
Unlike many traditional pomegranates with hard seeds, Parfianka is famous for its soft, edible arils (seeds), making it ideal for fresh eating, juicing, and culinary garnishes.
Its naturally semi-dwarf habit makes it one of the top pomegranate choices for pot culture and urban fruit growers.
