Fingersop is a Custard Apple relative, native tree that loves the Aussie sun after 5 years. It grows into a pretty shape with layers of leaves that look great in any garden. The fruit looks like little orange or red fingers and tastes like a mix of sweet peach and apricot. It is a slow starter but once it gets going it is a tough plant that handles Perth weather well.
Features:
Ideal prune height range: 2-3m
pH growing conditions: 5.5 to 6.5
Shade or full sun: part shade for first 5 years
Minimum pot year 5: 45L pot
Time to fruit age: 3-5 years from seed
Fingersop trees are easy to look after and do not mind the heat. They have glossy green leaves and small yellow flowers that turn into bunches of fruit. Because they stay quite small and bushy they are perfect for big pots on your patio or tucked into a sunny corner of the yard. They are also great for attracting butterflies to your garden.
Interesting Notes:
This tree is a cousin of the custard apple but the fruit is much smaller and easier to snack on. You can eat the skin too which makes it a mess-free treat straight off the branch. It is a very rare find in most nurseries so it is a total gem for collectors.
