It is called winged-stem because the square stems have four distinct wings.
The flowers are amazing, deep red with stripes of purple and white on the crown. They come out in late summer and autumn. You will need a different Passiflora variety nearby for good fruiting, as they need a mate for cross-pollination. Keep it protected from hard frost, give it a good drink in summer, and watch it grow fast!
Interesting Notes:
The local name for it in Brazil is Ouvaca. The yellow to orange fruit grows quite large, has an intense tropical aroma, and is highly prized for its sweet flavour. The flowers are incredibly sweet-scented and attract plenty of helpful pollinators to your garden.
