Product Details

Honey Sweet starfruit (Averrhoa carambola) is one of the sweetest carambola varieties, with crisp, golden fruit and very low acidity.

First time seen in Perth, In 20L pots already reaching  2m and ready to fruit twice a year.

The fruit is small to medium, with thin skin and a honeyed aftertaste. Unlike the common Arkin type, it’s less tangy and more dessert-like. Ideal for fresh eating or juicing, the tree is compact and productive, perfect for pots or small gardens.

Features:

Ideal prune height: 1.5–3 metres

pH range: 5.5–6.8

Sun preference: 20-40% shade

Minimum pot size by year 5: 35 litres

Time to fruit: 2–3 years (from now)

Harvest period: Summer to early autumn

Notable traits: Low-acid fruit, sweeter than most carambola types, compact size

Grow in well-drained soil with organic matter. Mulch well and protect from strong winds and frost. Requires regular watering during fruiting, and benefits from light pruning after harvest. Cross-pollination with other carambolas may increase yield, but not essential.

Highly recommended for home growers wanting a tropical fruit with little sourness. A sweet, easy-care option for warm climates and sunny patios.
