Garcinia warrenii is an attractive evergreen understorey tree with large, glossy dark green leaves and brilliant pinkish-red new growth flushes. It is a dioecious species (separate male and female trees), so planting three or more trees is recommended to guarantee cross-pollination for fruit production. Trees grow best in rich, well-draining soil with regular water, heavy organic mulch, and a warm, frost-free microclimate.
Interesting Notes:
Garcinia warrenii is the most widespread native mangosteen species in Australia and is considered by native food enthusiasts to have one of the best flavor profiles among wild Australian Garcinias. The fruit is popular for native bushfood preserves, tangy syrups, or fresh eating when fully ripe.
It makes a superb dense shade tree or mid-layer plant for syntropic food forests, rare fruit collections, and shaded suburban backyards.
