Golden Wreath Wattle

Orange Wattle

Western Australian Golden Wattle

Blue-leaved Wattle

Coojong (Noongar name)

Acacia saligna is a edible, graceful, fast-growing wattle tree that earns its nickname “The Dream Tree” for good reason. With weeping blue-green leaves and golden yellow flowers that light up winter, it’s both beautiful and tough.

Native to Western Australia, it thrives with zero effort once established. The seeds are edible when properly prepared—used traditionally as a rich, nutty grain. The sweet gum has long been enjoyed as a bush treat. It’s a powerful nitrogen fixer too, enriching the soil and helping other plants grow.

Bees adore the flowers, birds find shelter, and it needs no irrigation once settled in. The perfect set-and-forget tree for Perth.

Features:

Ideal prune height: 2–4 m

pH range: 6.0–9.0

Sun preference: Full sun

Minimum pot size by year 5: Not suitable for long-term pot culture

Time to fruit: 2–4 years (seed set)

Harvest period: Late spring to summer

Notable traits: Edible wattle seeds, sweet gum, bee attractant, soil improver, drought hardy, ornamental

Once planted, it looks after itself—no fertiliser, no watering, no fuss. A stunning, useful tree that supports your garden and the wider landscape.
