Elaeagnus multiflora (Goumi Berry)
The Goumi Berry or Cherry Silverberry, is a hardy, nitrogen-fixing shrub producing small, glossy red berries with a sweet flavour upto 14 Brix. The fruit is rich in vitamins A, C, and E, and can be eaten fresh when fully ripe or made into jams, sauces, and preserves. As a nitrogen fixer, it naturally enhances soil fertility, making it an excellent companion for fruit trees and ideal for food forests and regenerative gardens. Originally from East Asia, the Goumi is drought-tolerant, adaptable to poor soils, and thrives in temperate to subtropical climates. Highly ornamental, it bears fragrant spring flowers followed by abundant summer fruit, loved by both people and birds.
