Mango ginger is a hardy perennial that goes dormant in winter. It loves the heat but needs protection from the harsh Perth midday sun. Plant your rhizomes in spring with plenty of compost and keep the soil moist. Once the leaves turn yellow and die back in autumn, your fresh crop is ready to dig up.
Interesting Notes:
Amba Haldi is a star in Ayurvedic medicine. It is used to help with digestion and skin health because it is full of antioxidants. It is much easier to use in the kitchen than regular turmeric because you get all the health benefits without the messy yellow stains.
This plant is a must for any food forest or tropical garden.
