Other Common Names: Tree Tomato, Tomato Fruit, Andean Tomato
Red Tamarillo is a fast-growing small fruit tree from the nightshade family, producing bright red egg-shaped fruit with rich, tangy-sweet pulp. The fruit is best when fully ripe and can be eaten raw, scooped out with a spoon, or cooked into jams, sauces, and chutneys. Its tropical taste is often compared to passionfruit crossed with tomato and guava. A favourite among backyard growers for its high productivity and fast return from seed.
It prefers a sheltered spot, protected from frost and wind, and benefits from regular feeding and watering. Perfect for pots or small garden spaces.
