Star Anise (Illicium verum), also known as Chinese Star Anise

Star Anise is a striking, star-shaped spice tree producing highly aromatic fruits used in Asian cuisine and traditional remedies. This slow-growing evergreen prefers a warm, sheltered position and moist, well-drained soil. Its glossy leaves and small pinkish flowers make it an attractive garden addition even before the unique star-shaped pods appear. Pods are harvested when mature and dried for use.
