Star Gooseberry

The Star Gooseberry is an ornamental small tropical tree is a stunner, heavy bearing zesty fruit right off the branches and trunk. It's a tough  plant that loves a good warm spot, making it a brilliant choice for Perth backyard growers who want a tropical vibe.

Features:

Ideal prune height range: 2-5m (easily kept smaller in a pot)

pH growing conditions: 5.5 to 7.5 (Tolerant of most well-drained soils)

Shade or full sun: Full sun is best for 2m plus specimens in warm areas, but afternoon shade is a good idea when the heat is a bit much.

Minimum pot year 5: 50L pot

Time to fruit age: 2-4 years from planting (Not a long wait!)

Producing small pale yellow, ribbed fruit, hanging in dense clusters right off the main limbs. The fruit's super tart and crunchy, so it's not one for eating like an apple, but it's gold for turning into sweet preserves, jams, chutneys, and cool drinks. Lots of Vitamin C, so it’s a healthy little punch of flavour. If you slice the fruit, you'll see a six-pointed star, which is where it gets its catchy name.

Interesting Notes:
