The Vanilla Bean Orchid (Vanilla planifolia) is the tropical climbing vine that gives us real vanilla. This rare, elegant orchid produces long, fleshy vines with thick green leaves and pale yellow-green flowers that must be hand-pollinated to produce the famous vanilla beans. Grown with support, it forms a lush vertical feature and rewards patient growers with highly fragrant, valuable pods after flowering.
