Common Names: NSW Davidson Plum, Mullumbimby Plum
NSW Davidson Plum is a slender, palm-like tree that brings a tropical rainforest vibe to your Perth garden. Unlike the larger Queensland version, this species stays smaller and more manageable. It is famous for its sour, deep-purple fruit that grows directly off the main trunk.
Features:
Ideal prune height range: 3-5m
pH growing conditions: 5.0 to 6.5
Shade or full sun: Prefers part shade; protect from afternoon sun in Perth
Minimum pot year 5: 45L pot
Time to fruit age: 3-4 years from seed
This tree is a great pick for narrow spaces because it grows straight up with a small footprint. In Perth, it needs a spot that is sheltered from our hot, dry winds and heavy frost. It loves rich, organic soil and plenty of water during the summer months to keep the large, hairy leaves looking green.
Interesting Notes:
The fruit is a gourmet bush tucker staple. It is too tart to eat fresh but makes world-class jams, sauces, and even wine. It is also packed with more antioxidants than blueberries. Be careful when handling the stems as they have tiny irritating hairs.
Limited stock. Pickup from Parkwood, WA. Delivery to Perth Metro only.
